The Leg Press
At the NSC Therapy Center we use a standard leg press to activate the newly awakened muscle groups that had layed dormant while once paralyzed.  we generally start out with 15 lbs. and increase from there according to individual status. and strength.  If you review these videos and  think to yourself "They are using their stomach " you are sadly mistaken.  It takes the following leg muscles to create this movement:   Peroneuos longus, Soleus, Gastrocnemius, Tibialis anterior, Rectus femoris, Tensor fasciae llatae, Gluteus medius and minimus, Gluteus maximus, Biceps femoris, Iliotibial band, Vastas lateralis.  The abdominal muscles  only play the part in breathing.   Though 15 lbs. may seem like nothing to the average man, leg pressing 15 lbs.  with legs that have been once paralyzed is what I consider a huge improvement.  This is not impossible to accomplish , it takes a positive attitude and alot of work.
